Do you have MFA (Multi-Factor Authentication)? How to use it?

Do SARD systems support MFA?

Yes, we have an additional system setting we can turn on for the organisation. When the system setting is turned on by your Trust or organisation, this can then be enabled on your user account by logging to SARD via Edit My Details page. This can be also done by SARD Support Team at the request of your organisation's administrator.

How am I authenticated if the functionality is turned on?

SARD systems support MFA authentication using OTP compatible apps, such as Microsoft Authenticator or Google Authenticator.

How do I enable MFA (once the organisation setting has been turned on)?

Once the MFA feature is turned on, you will need to log in, click on Edit My Details (under My Details on Dashboard), tick the 'Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) enabled' box, then click Save. A QR code will be visible at the bottom of the page. This video guide explains the process.

Then you will need to install an OTP (One Time Passcode) compatible app on your smartphone, go to the app and scan the QR code to finish setting up.

Upon logging in to SARD next time, you will need to enter your registered email address and password as usual. In addition, you will be prompted to enter the code from your Authenticator App.

If you have difficulties with accessing the Authenticator App or logging in after MFA is turned on for your account, any support would need to be provided internally by your organisation rather than by the SARD Support Team. The contact details of your organisation's administrator can be found under System Support on your Dashboard.

A System Administrator can access the OTP for a user which can be given to them to allow them to log in, if required. The MFA can be turned off by the Administrator on the user account at any time.
